Wigand, Liseth Propel Softball To 5-2 Win Over Qui

                FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Alli Wigand drove home the game-winning runs with a two-run single in the third and Lauren Liseth added a two-run homer in the fifth to lead the Fairfield University softball team to a 5-2 win over Quinnipiac University.

                The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead by scoring a run in the each of the first two innings. Jacquie Ristow reached first base off a fielder's choice and went to second when Alex Alba singled to left field. Nikki Barba capped the first inning rally with a single up the middle to make it a 1-0 contest. Quinnipiac added to that lead in the second inning as Lauren Salgado scored an unearned run.

                Fairfield broke through against starter Christy Carbrera in the third inning, as Kristen Filicia started the rally with a two-out single. Sammy Ruffolo followed with a single, and Liseth continued the rally with a base hit to make it 2-1. The runners moved up to second and third respectively on the throw to home. Wigand took advantage of the opportunity and sliced a single to right field that chased home both runners for a 3-2 lead.

                The Stags earned some insurance in the fifth inning when Filicia opened the inning with a walk, After a sacrifice bunt, Liseth hit a home run over the right field fence to make it 5-2 in Fairfield's favor. Rae Ball earned the win for the Stags, entering the game in the top of the fourth inning after Emily Orr tossed the opening three frames. Rebecca Trott closed out the game with an effective seventh inning.

                Fairfield returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 21 with a conference doubleheader against Saint Peter's College before hosting Boston University for a twin bill on Sunday, April 22.
