The Cyclones (6-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Cizynski nailed the Stags' first basket of the game at 17:15. Iowa State extended its lead to 10-2 before a three-pointer by junior Alexys Vazquez stopped the run at 15:53. The Cyclones rolled out to a 13-point lead in part to the hot-shooting of Hallie Christofferson who scored eight points in span of 2:39. The Stags cut the gap to 22-12 on a three-pointer by MacFarlane from the top of the arc at 11:53. Cizynski cut it to double-digits, 28-19, at 8:11 with a free throw but Iowa State responded with back-to-back three-pointers.

In the closing minutes of the half, the Stags began to whittle away the deficit, pulling within 38-28 at 1:22 on a lay-in by junior transfer Casey Grace. A pair of free throws by All-American candidate Chelsea Poppens with 33.3 seconds left sent the Cyclones into the locker room with a 40-28 advantage.

Just 13 seconds into the second half, Linney drained a three-pointer to cut the gap to single digits. Iowa State answered with an 11-1 run to make the score, 51-32, at 14:36. The Stags did hold the Cyclones scoreless for the final 3:54 but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Christofferson finished with 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting while Poppens had 12 points and nine rebounds. Bryn Williamson had 12 points, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Fairfield (5-3) goes on hiatus for final exams and returns to action on December 22 when they host LaSalle University at 2pm in Alumni Hall.
