FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team hosts Drexel University in a non-conference match up on Sunday afternoon. The game will tip-off at 4 pm at Webster Bank Arena and will be televised on SNY.
The Stags have won their last two games with decisions over Rider University and UW-Milwaukee, improving their overall record to 6-5. Fairfield plays its last home game for nearly a month as it hits the road for games at St. Joseph's on December 22, Old Dominion on December 29 and three straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) road games that takes them to Canisius, Niagara, and Loyola.
Fairfield received several outstanding performances in its win over Milwaukee as
Derek Needham scored a team-high 13 points while
Amadou Sidibe just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Maurice Barrow also reached double digits with 10 points.
For the third straight game,
Justin Jenkins set a career high for scoring. After scoring six points against Canisius and seven points at Rider, Jenkins tallied nine points against Milwaukee. Over the three-game run, Jenkins is shooting 69 percent from the floor (9 of 13) and 60 percent from three-point range (3 of 5). Jenkins is the top scoring freshman over the last three games with 22 points, beating out
Marcus Gilbert and
Amadou Sidibe's 16 points each.
The Stags and the Drexel Dragons have two opponents in common, namely Penn and Rider. Fairfield swept its two games, beating Penn (62-53) and Rider (65-52). Drexel split its two games with a 61-59 at Penn and a 75-66 home loss against Rider. The two teams also share upcoming common opponents in St. Joseph's and Old Dominion.
The Dragons (3-6 overall) halted a two-game skid with a 64-57 road win against Princeton University. The team shares two common opponents with Fairfield, defeating Penn but falling to Rider (75-68) at home. Damion Lee is the team's top scorer with an 18.0 scoring average, a number which places third in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Frantz Massenat, one of four student-athletes to start all nine games for Drexel, ranks third among his teammates with 13.4 points per game, and ranks 13th in the CAA for scoring. Tavon Allen leads the conference in free throw percentage, netting 17 of 18 attempts (94.4 percent). Chris Fouch averaged 16.7 points per game through the first three contests, but injured his ankle against Penn and will miss the remainder of the season.
