FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team returns home on Wednesday night to host the UW-Milwaukee at Webster Bank Arena. Game time is slated for 7 pm.
The Stags will get back to non-conference play with a pair of games this week, starting with the Panthers. After the Wednesday night game, Fairfield will host Drexel University on Sunday, December 16 at 4 pm. It marks the first time that Fairfield will host back-to-back home games this year.
The program comes off a 65-52 win over Rider University to record its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victory of the season. Maurice Barrow became the third Stag to earn a double-double by registering 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both numbers represented a season-high for the forward, joining Keith Matthews and Amadou Sidibe as the Stags with a double-double on the season. Seven of Barrow's 10 rebounds came on the offensive end of the court, the most by a Fairfield student-athlete this season.
The Stags continued to receive strong support from the freshman class as Marcus Gilbert and Amadou Sidibe both earned the starting nod against Rider. Gilbert responded with eight points and four rebounds in 21 minutes of work. Classmate Justin Jenkins enjoyed his best game as a Stag with seven points and three steals in eight minutes of action. Sidibe added two points and six rebounds despite playing with foul trouble for most of the game.
The Panthers (3-7 overall) split a pair of games last weekend, starting with an 80-73 overtime win over Northern Illinois. Two days later, the team dropped an 84-50 decision to DePaul on the road. Milwaukee has played four home games this year, winning three of those contests, with six games coming away from campus (four road and two neutral site games). Paris Gulley, who missed the first six games with a hand injury, was the team's top scorer against DePaul with 14 points, the only student-athlete to reach double figures. He is the team's top scorer with an 18.8 scoring average, followed by Jordan Aaron's 15.5 points per game. Aaron represents the team's top three-point threat with 23 long-range baskets in 10 games.
Tickets for both upcoming home games are available at ticketmaster.com or at the Webster Bank Arena box office. For more information, please contact the Fairfield University ticket office at (203) 254-4136.
