CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team continues play in the Preseason NIT
Tip-Off on Tuesday afternoon, battling Penn in a second-round game. The contest tips off at 4:30 pm at John Paul Jones Arena on the campus of the University of Virginia.
The Stags come off a 54-45 loss to the University of Virginia in the first round despite strong efforts from freshman

Derek Needham and
Desmond Wade. Mikulic led the team in scoring for the first time when he netted 12 points against the Cavaliers. Needham and Wade had indentical numbers in the game, registering 10 points, four assists, and one steal.
Fairfield led the entire first half and for part of the second half before falling behind against Virginia. The Stags were within four points with five minutes remaining after Mikulic's basket, but the team would not score again which allowed the Cavaliers to pad their lead with a 5-0 run the rest of the way.
The Quakers come off an 84-69 loss to Delaware in their Preseason NIT Tip-Off first round game. Penn led by as many as five points in the first half before relinquishing the lead for good at 32-31 with three minutes left in the half. Fran Dougherty and Miles Cartwright paced the Quakers offense with 21 and 20, respectively.
Those numbers have placed the duo on top of the team's statistics with Cartwright posting a team-high 20.5 scoring average and Dougherty adding 15 points per forty minutes. Dougherty is also the team's top rebounder with 8.5 caroms per contest. The Quakers have found their three-point shooting touch early this year, netting 44 percent of their shots from behindd the arc. Cartwright is shooting 56 percent from long range, making five of nine in his first two outings.
