FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game to Loyola University at home as the Greyhounds posted a 3-0 decision at Lessing Field.
Loyola scored two early goals that set the tempo for the rest of the game, starting with Dominifc Marshall's tally at the 8:13 mark. A mishandled ball inside the box resulted in the ball landing at the feet of Marshall, who sent the ball into the empty net for a 1-0 lead. The second goal was recorded by Larry Ndjock, who dribbled into the box, beat his defender toward goal and slid the ball into the goal for a 2-0 advantage. Ndjock was sprung in stride by a pass down the left flank by Connor Thompson.
The final goal came with just under eight minutes remaining as Joseph Cahalan converted a pass from Stephen Dooley that beat the goalkeeper to the lower corner, completing the scoring.
Fairfield goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe made two saves, while Thurman Van Riper tallied six saves to earn the shutout. Fairfield outshot Loyola in both halves, including a 10-3 margin in the first half. The Stags kept the Greyhounds to just three shots in the second half as well, while they attempted five shots over the final 45 minutes.
The Stags will head to upstate New York next weekend as they return to action against Niagara on October 26 before playing Canisius on October 28.
