Conditions In Upstate New York Lead To Cancellatio

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Heavy rain and poor travel conditions have forced the cancellation of the Mayor's Cup, a weekend men's soccer tournament hosted by Hartwick College. The tournament field included Fairfield, Cornell, Robert Morris, and the host school.

SUNY Oneonta President Nancy Kleniewski and Hartwick College President Margaret Drugovich cited inclement weather and the travel conditions in Ostego Country as the reason for the cancellation. Several cities and counties in upstate New York remain in a state of emergency following Wednesday's heavy rain, and more preciptation is expected through Thursday in Oneonta and the surrounding area.

Following consultation with athletics, facilities and other personnel from both campuses, the presidents' decision to cancel this year's event was made in the interest of safety, particularly of those attempting to travel to the tournament from the south or east.

The Fairfield soccer team will travel to Northeastern University for its next game, slated for September 17 at 6 pm.
