Men's Soccer Drops 4-1 Decision To Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Stony Brook University this evening, surrendering three goals in the second half.

The Stags opened the scoring early in the first half when Jon Clements was awarded a free kick from 35 yards out. The sophomore struck the ball cleanly and sent a shot just under the crossbar at the 7:39 mark. The home team would tie the game when Berian Gobeil scored his second goal of the season by catching the right corner of the goal.

The Seawolves took the lead when a ball deflected into the Stags goal for an own goal at 53:38, making the score 2-1. The home team would tack on two more goals in the half, starting with Gobeil's second goal of the game. Lenardo Fernandes started the scoring opportunity when he sent a pass past his defender into the box. Gobeil broke free and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, scoring at 64:07.

Stony Brook tallied its final goal when Frank Whelan headed a cross from Serigne Sylla in the 84th minute, putting the score at 4-1. The Seawovles outshot the Stags by an 8-0 count in the second half, giving the team a 17-3 advantage in the game. Fairfield goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe made three saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Stags will take the field again this Friday night when they head up Interstate 95 for a match up with Yale University. The game is slated for a 7 pm start.
