DURHAM, N.H.  –
The Fairfield University volleyball team wrapped up play at the Holly Young Invitational with a tough 3-1 (25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 23-25) loss to Indiana State University this evening. Freshman Camille Coffey, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, registered a double-double with a career-best 20 kills and 12 digs.

Coffey played in all 12 sets for the Stags during the tournament, averaging 3.75 kills, 3.25 digs, and 4.00 points. The double-double Coffey turned in against the Sycamores was her second consecutive and fifth of the season.

Setter Rachel Romansky had her third consecutive double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs. Junior Kara Reis was also in double figures finishing with a season-best 22 digs.

The Stags started off the match strong, taking a 10-3 advantage. Indiana State (7-3) would later cut the deficit to two points, but Fairfield never allowed the Sycamores to get any closer as they went on to the 25-21 win.

Indiana State had an early lead in the second set, but the Stags quickly erased it with a 7-0 run. Romansky capped off the surge with a kill to give Fairfield a 14-11 lead. The Sycamores responded late in the frame, closing the game out on an 8-2 run for the 25-18 victory.

Another late run in the third stanza by Indiana State took away a victory from the Stags. After Fairfield narrowed the gap to 18-17, the Sycamores rattled off three straight points. That was all the momentum Indiana State needed as they went on to the 25-21 win. The Sycamores trailed 14-12 in the fourth set when Tournament MVP Morgan Dall sparked an 8-0 run with a kill. Indiana State didn't relinquish the lead the rest of the way going on to a 25-23 victory.

Junior Brianna Dixion finished with nine kills, snapping her streak of four-straight matches with 10 or more.

Fairfield (3-7) will head home to Alumni Hall on September 17 when the Stags open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play against Canisius College at 2pm. Fairfield will then host two-time defending MAAC Champion Niagara University on September 18 at 2pm.
