Men's Soccer Finishes MAAC Season Unbeaten After 3

Box Score
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Even a record-setting October snow storm could not derail the Fairfield University men's soccer. Even though the game was delayed several hours to allow for snow removal on the turf field, the Stags kept their momentum and extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's College.

The win also secured an unbeaten Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate as well as the team posted an 8-0-1 record against conference foes. And as he did in the previous two games, Jon Clements was front and center in this victory as well.

The forward tallied a pair of goals in the Saint Peter's win, pushing the home team in front in the 27th minute. Clements controlled a loose ball 30 yards from goal, cut past two defenders, and released a shot from 12 yards that caught the upper corner for a 1-0 Fairfield lead.

The Stags netted a second goal before the half when Jake Zuniga stood over the ball for a free kick. He sent the ball into the box where it was deflected off a defender and into the net for a 2-0 advantage with seven minutes remaining in the half.

Fairfield finished off the scoring in the second half when Clements took a pass from the left side line and ran past a pair of defenders into open space. Once again, he took a shot from a distance, this time from 25 yards away. The shot blew past Saint Peter's goalkeeper Diego Mendoza and caught the lower right corner for a 3-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe made two saves for Fairfield before yielding to Sergio Lara for the final five minutes of the game. Mendoza made six saves for the Peacocks.

The Stags, who secured the top-seed in the 2011 MAAC tournament next weekend in Orlando, will await the winner of the Canisius-Rider game in the tourney play-in round next Thursday. Fairfield will play its quarterfinal game on Friday, November 4 at 1:45 pm.
