Volleyball Hits The Road For Pair Of MAAC Matches

Fairfield, which has won eight straight matches and nine of its last 10, will leave the friendly confines of Alumni Hall for the first time in more than a month when the Stags travel to first-place Niagara, and Canisius this weekend. The Purple Eagles host Fairfield on October 22 at 2pm while the Griffs welcome the Stags on October 23 at 2pm.

Fairfield (12-8; 9-1 MAAC) vs. Niagara (16-7; 10-0 MAAC): The Stags only MAAC loss of the season came at the hands of the Purple Eagles back on September 18 and they have not lost since. In that match, Niagara posted a decisive 3-0 victory, with Ellen Senf leading the way with 17 kills while Hannah Hedrick recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. For the Stags, freshman Camille Coffey and junior Brianna Dixion each turned in seven kills and two total blocks. Coffey also had 10 digs. Setter Rachel Romansky was just shy of a double-double, finishing with 24 assists and nine digs to go along with five kills. Defensively, junior Kara Reis tallied 19 digs while senior Lauren Balmert had 11 digs. Fairfield has lost the last four meetings with the Purple Eagles, but still maintains a 22-7 all-time record against them.

Fairfield vs. Canisius (9-12; 4-6 MAAC): Fairfield opened MAAC play with a 3-2 victory over Canisius on September 17. In that match, junior Kara Reis notched her 1,000th career dig, finishing with 20 on the day. The Stags out-blocked the Griffs, 11-10, and posted 71 kills to Canisius' 44. Fairfield also had an 87-62 advantage in digs. Several Stags turned in double-digit efforts. Freshman Camille Coffey registered a double-double with a match-high 18 kills and 16 digs. Junior Brianna Dixion tallied 16 kills and two block assists while senior Kendal Dirkin recorded 11 kills, six total blocks, and four digs, tying a career best. Freshman Lindsay Weaver had 11 kills and set career bests with five total blocks and eight digs. Setter Rachel Romansky recorded a season-high 57 assists and a season-high seven kills along with five digs and three total blocks, tying a career-high. Freshman Carsen Mata tied a season-best with 19 digs while senior Lauren Balmert notched a season-high 14 digs. The Stags have taken two-straight from Canisius and are 21-9 all-time against the Griffs.
