Box Score
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team moved into first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with its 2-1 win over Marist College. The Stags are the only unbeaten team remaining in the conference with a 5-0-1 mark.

Fairfield extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with this afternoon's win, posting six wins and a tie in its last seven games. Today, the Stags held a two-goal lead before the Red Foxes tallied their lone goal late in the second half. The game's first goal came in the 39th minute when Keaton Cristobal started the opportunity with a cross into the box. Marist goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny was able to deflect the cross but the ball eventually landed on the feet of Daniel Shaw. The sophomore released a shot that caught the corner of the goal, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Stags doubled up their advantage with a second goal, this time freshman Jordan Ayris finishing the scoring chance. Jon Clements started the opportunity with a pass to Ayris outside the box. The freshman accepted the pass and dribbled a few yards before unleashing a shot that beat Skonieczny to the lower right corner for a 2-0 advantage.

Marist finally cut into the lead just four minutes later courtesy of Stephan Brossard and Anthony Rozmus. After the Red Foxes were awarded a corner kick, Rozmus restarted play with a cross that entered the middle of the box. Brossard was able to get his head on the ball and redirected the cross into the back of the net, making the score 2-1.

The Red Foxes continued to mount pressure on the Stags defense, but the unit was up to the challenge. Despite outshooting Fairfield by a 5-1 count over the final 33 minutes, Marist was unable to complete any of scoring chances. Fairfield finished the game with a 12-9 advantage in the shots category.

Michael O'Keeffe made one save to preserve the win for Fairfield, while Skonieczny tallied three saves for the Red Foxes.

Fairfield's next MAAC game comes Saturday, October 22 when it hosts Iona College at Lessing Field. The game is slated for 7 pm. The Gaels, which entered the weekend ranked nationally, own a 12-2 overall record after Sunday's action.
