The Fairfield University women's basketball team will play its third game in five days Tuesday evening when it takes on North Carolina State University. The Stags, winners of four straight, are 13-6 overall and 7-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, while the Wolfpack is 9-12 on the season and 1-6 against Atlantic Coast Conference opposition.

Fairfield and N.C. State are meeting for the third time and the second in Raleigh, with the Wolfpack winning the previous two meetings. N.C. State captured the team's first meeting came in the title game of the 1986 Central Florida Rotary Thanksgiving Classic, 78-61. Fairfield made its first trip to Raleigh during the 1989-90 campaign, falling 85-70.
The Stags begin play this week as the nation's top ranked team in scoring defense. The Stags are allowing 48.0 points per game for the season and have replaced West Virginia (49.4) at the top of the list. Connecticut ranks second in the nation, through Sunday at 49.3, followed by the Mountaineers, Manhattan (49.8) and Baylor (50.8).
N.C. State enters tonight's game with five consecutive losses, by just an average of 6.4 points per game, including a one-point loss to #3 Duke, 65-64. NC State is averaging 74.5 points per game and has scored 65 or more points in every game this season. Leading the way is Bonae Holston at 15.9 points per game, including a 30-point effort against Florida State on January 30. She is also the team's top rebounder averaging 8.3 caroms a game. Kody Burke is fourth on the team in scoring, 9.1 a game, and has blocked a team-best 36 shots. Amber White is scoring 12.3 a game, third on the team, and has a team-best 79 assists and 38 steals. NC State is shooting 42.2 percent from the field for the year and holding foes to 40.5 percent. The Wolfpack has a +6.1 rebound margin for the season, averaging 44.9 a gam. NC State is committing 18.8 turnovers a contest, while recording 8.7 steals and averaging 14.6 assists.
Taryn Johnson and Katie Cizynski have been hot from the floor in the last five games, combining to go 45-67 for 109 points. Cizynski is 19-27 in the stretch of games (70.4%), while Johnson is 26-40 (65%). In conference play, 27 minutes a game, Johnson is shooting 56.5 percent, while Cizynski is shooting 58.8 in her 13.4 minutes per game.
