Men's Soccer Edged Out By New Hampshire, 1-0

Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team dropped its first road game of the season as the University of New Hampshire posted a 1-0 win. The Stags opened the season with seven straight home games before today's contest.

New Hampshire scored just five minutes into the first half when Marcus Barr started the game's only scoring play. He set up the scoring chance by carrying the ball into the box from the left side. He sent a cross to the middle of the box, where Dylan George found space. He released a shot that just went under the cross bar to beat goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe.

The Stags goalkeeper played a solid game for 90 minutes, making a season-high nine saves as he faced 16 shots. The Wildcats outshot Fairfield by a 9-1 count in the opening 45 minutes, but the Stags pushed the ball forward for most of the second half. The visitors owned a 12-7 shot advantage in the second half, forcing Wildcat goalkeeper Colin O'Donnell to make five saves. O'Donnell did not make a save in the opeing half.

New Hampshire improved to 5-0-2 overall, while the Stags fell to 1-3-4 overall. Fairfield returns to the pitch on October 2 when the team travels to the University of Rhode Island.
