Men's Soccer Returns To Pitch Against Nationally-R

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will face its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season when it takes on Boston College at Lessing Field on September 14. Game time is set for 7 pm. The Eagles head into the game with a 2-0-1 record and were ranked fifth in the last NSCAA poll.

The Stags will play their fifth straight home game on Tuesday night, looking to improve on their 1-1-2 overall record. Fairfield posted a 1-0-1 mark last week, defeating Yale and tying UMass at home. Erik Ilisije propelled the Stags to victory with a pair of goals against Yale, scoring the tying goal in the second half and the game-winner int he 101st minute.

Goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe, who currently ranks second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in both goals against average (1.09) and save percentage (.739), posted the shutout against UMass as both teams settled on a scoreless draw after 110 minutes. Ilisije was honored by the conference as the offensive player of the week, while O'Keeffe was selected as the MAAC defensive player of the week.

Boston College plays its third Connecticut-based school on Tuesday night, already defeating Hartford (3-2 score) and Quinnipiac (1-0 score). The Eagles tied nationally-ranked Maryland in their last outing, tying the Terrapins in a 1-1 draw. Conor Fitzpatrick tallied the team's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 19th minute.

Fitzpatrick is the team's leading scorer with four points to his credit, while his two goals scored are also a team best. He and Kyle Bekker have the team's two game-winning goals this season.

Justin Luthy has spent all 290 minutes in the Boston College goal this year, registering a 0.93 goals against average and a .727 save percentage in three starts. He has eight saves to his credit so far.
