Stags Country TV Show Nominated For Regional Emmy

Stags Country, a 30-minute sports magazine show, has received rave reviews in its first year of broadcast. Just after the airing of the third show, Fairfield University received good news when it found out that the show was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Boston/New England region. The region includes all broadcast and cable news outlets from the New York state line up to the Canadian border.

The Emmy nomination is for the Greg Chase story which aired during the first show. Chase is a cross country runner who was born in Honduras, adopted by parents who are Connecticut residents, and despite being told he would never walk, became a Division I runner at Fairfield University.

During the 2009-10 academic year, the show was broadcasted three times - October, January, and April- on WTNH - Channel 8 (New Haven) and on WCTX - Channel 59 (New Haven). The show is comprised of feature stories about student-athletes, coaches, and staff in the community, in the classroom, as well as on the court or field.

"We are competing against all the local stations in the region, as well as against the likes of NESN (New England Sports Network) and Comcast sports," said Noah Finz, host of Stags Country and sports anchor at WTNH-TV. "We are in pretty good competition, which says a lot about the quality of our show."

"It's an honor to be nominated for this award," says Casey Timmeny, External Projects Producer at Fairfield University. "The staff and students worked extremely hard to put together an impressive program and it's exciting to be recognized."

The award ceremony takes place on May 22 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
