FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team faces Siena College on Friday night as the team plays its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game of the season. The game is slated for a 7 pm tip at the Times Union Center.
Fairfield won its fourth straight game with a 72-52 decision over Howard University. The Stags will try for their fifth consecutive victory this evening, which would be the longest run since a seven-gamer during the 2008-09 campaign. The streak came after a 1-3 start, the same beginning that the Stags had to start the 2010-11 campaign.
The Stags oopened the conference slate with a 65-55 win over Loyola University at home. Friday, Fairfield will play away from home for the sixth time in nine games. The team owns a 1-2 mark on the opposition's court and a 2-0 record on a neutral court.
Derek Needham remains the team's top scorer, checking into today's action with a 12.1 scoring average. He has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, including seven-point performance against Howard last Tuesday.. Warren Edney is next in line with a 9.4 scoring average. Olander tops the team rebounding list with 7.4 caroms per contest. He's been the top rebounder in four of the team's eight games this season, including a personal-best 14 caroms against Loyola on Sunday.
iena looks to stop a two-game skid that includes back-to-back overtime losses to Princeton and Albany. The Saints own a 2-5 overall record and a 1-0 MAAC mark. Siena's last victory came against Rider University in the two team's MAAC opener.
Ryan Rossiter is one of two MAAC student-athletes scoring more than 20 points per game this year. The senior is the only player in the conference to average a double-double, checking into tonight's game with a 14.3 rebounding average. He accounts for 40 percent of the team's rebounds with no other Saint averaging better than 4.3 caroms per contest.
Ryan Rossiter and Clarence Jackson are the two Saints scoring better than 10 points per game. After Rossiter's 21.3 points per game, Jackson is next line with 16.9 points every forty minutes. Rossiter leads the in rebounding, while OD Anosike is second with a 4.3 rebounding average.
