FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team continues its two-game road trip by heading to the College of the Holy Cross for a Sunday afternoon contest. The game is slated for a 4 pm tip.
Fairfield improved to 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a 72-55 win over Siena College. It marked the fourth win for the Stags off their home turf, winning a pair of games on the opposition's court and another pair of games in a neutral setting. The team has won four of its six games away from home.
The game will be the last for the Stags until after the exam break. Fairfield will not play a game for eight days, taking the court again on December 20 when it hosts the University of Vermont at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The game is the return date from last year's BracketBuster contest which was played in Burlington.
Derek Needham remains the team's top scorer, checking into today's action with a 12.1 scoring average. He has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, including seven-point performance against Howard on December 7..
Warren Edney is next in line with a 10.3 scoring average. Olander tops the team rebounding list with 7.4 caroms per contest. He's been the top rebounder in four of the team's nine games this season, including a personal-best 14 caroms against Loyola on December 5.
Holy Cross looks for its first win of the season this afternoon, coming into the game with an 0-7 record. The Crusaders also started the 1940-41 season with an 0-7 mark. The program has never began a season with eight straight losses. The Crusaders are playing top-notch competition as CBSSports.com lists the program with the 69th hardest schedule in the nation.
Junior Devin Brown is the team's top scorer despite not starting a game this season. The guard is averaging 14.9 points per game. He's been the team's top scoreror co-leader in four games this season, including each of the three outings. He became the first Crusader to reach the 20-point mark this season when he tallied 21 markers against Stony Brook.
Holy Cross was selected fourth in the preseason Patriot League Coaches poll with 76 points and garnered two first-place votes. American was the coaches top pick with 79 points. Senior Andrew Keister was selected to the All-Patriot League first team, the Crusader's lone representative on that squad.
