Men's Basketball Prepares For Non-Conference Conte

Game Notes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's basketball team continues its road swing when it travels to Savannah State University for a December 2 non-conference game. The Stags will play their second straight game against a team from the Mideastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

The Stags enter tonight's game with a 2-3 overall record which includes a 91-56 win over Norfolk State last Friday at the Palestra. Fairfield stopped a three-game skid with the victory, which was part of the Philly Hoop Group Classic.

A scoring race has heated up between sophomroe Derek Needham and senior Warren Edney. Only one point separates the two student-athletes with Needham netting 61 points (12.2 ppg) and Edney posting 60 points (12.0 ppg). The players are the only Stags averaging in double figures coming into Thursday night's action.

Savannah State brings a 1-7 overall record into the contest, which included a pair of losses during its two-game Ohio run. The team dropped a two-point decision to the University of Dayton before falling to the University of Cincinnati by a 54-41 count.

Savannah State has two double-digit scorers this season, namely Jovonni Shuler (17.3 ppg) and Preston Blackmon (11.7 ppg). Shuler also represents the team's top three-point threat, averaging 2.5 three pointers per game. He is making nearly 40 percent of his shots from behind the arc.
