Women's Basketball Welcomes George Mason To Alumni

The Fairfield University women's basketball team will play its second of four consecutive home games on Monday night, hosting George Mason University at Alumni Hall.  The game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.  Both squads played on Friday night and are 1-0 on the young season.

Fairfield began its season with a 65-48 win over Quinnipiac on Friday night, the fourth consecutive season opening win of the Joe Frager tenure.  Joelle Nawrocki scored a career-high equaling 15 points in the opener, hitting 6-9 from the field, with three three-pointers. Laura Vetra made the first start of her Fairfield career and tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.  Taryn Johnson also scored 12 points in the win, going over 300 for her career in the effort.

The Stags and Patriots have are meeting for the fourth time in program histoyr, with Fairfield holding a 2-1 advantage.  George  Mason held-off a 32-point, 16-rebound Stephanie Geehan fueled rally a season ago, to earn a 70-65 victory in Fairfax, Va.  When the two teams last met at Alumni Hall, Fairfield earned a 70-57 victory in the January 6, 1996 contest.

Fairfield is opening a season with back-to-back home games for only the sixth time in its 30 years at the Division I level.  The last time the Stags opened the year with consecutive home games was 2006-07 when the team fell to Richmond and Villanova.  The Stags are playing their first four games at home this year, having done so once before - 1983-84 - when that squad opened the year at 4-0.
