Volleyball Takes MAAC Play On The Road

After their first MAAC loss of the season last weekend, the Stags look to get back on track at Canisius and defending MAAC Champion Niagara on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Stags, Griffs, and Purple Eagles are currently tied atop the MAAC standings with 5-1 records.
Canisius will have LiveStats and Live video (fee) available for Saturday's match.  Niagara will be providing LiveStats on www.purpleeagels.com.
Fairfield vs. Canisius: The Stags have taken seven out of the last eight meetings with the Griffs, including a pair of 3-0 victories last season. Senior Lauren Hughes is averaging 3.50 kills per set against Canisius with a career attack percentage of .310. Junior Haililani Pokipala is averaging 2.66 digs and 2.17 kills per set along with nine aces while junior Alex Lopez is averaging 2.88 digs and 2.50 kills per set. Fairfield is 19-7 all-time against Canisius.
Fairfield vs. Niagara: Fairfield had a 20-match winning streak against Niagara and are 22-3 all-time against the Purple Eagles. Senior Lauren Hughes is averaging 3.52 kills per set against Niagara while Haililani Pokipala is averaging 3.54 digs per set.
MAAC Rookie of the Week:  Setter Rachel Romansky picked up the Stags' first MAAC honor of the season on October 4 as she was named Rookie of the Week. Romansky averaged 9.57 assists and 2.07 points per set over two matches. She also tallied 11 kills on .409 hitting and collected seven digs and three total blocks. In the Stags' 3-0 win against Marist on October 2, Romansky posted 31 assists and notched three kills on .400 hitting. At Iona on October 3, Romansky had a career day, finishing with 36 assists and 10 points along with a season-high eight kills on a season best .412 hitting, and a season-high two total blocks.
Conference Win Streak Snapped: Fairfield's conference winning streak was halted at 10 matches with a loss at Iona on October 3. The streak was the 13th longest in Division I this season.
