Men's Soccer Falls On The Road To Iona College

Box Score

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision on the road against Iona College, as the Stags begun a three-game road trip against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents.

The two teams looked as though they would play to a scoreless tie in the first half despite the Gaels holding an 7-1 advantage through the first 44-plus minutes of the game. It was the eighth shot that broke the chance of a scoreless game, as Mario Rios beat Fairfield goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe to the corner with just two seconds remaining in the half. Victor Munoz set up the game's first goal with a cross to the center of the box.

That goal looked as though that would be all the scoring for the game, even though the Stags stepped its offensive pressure in the second half. Fairfield put five shots toward goal, but goalkeeper Jesse Fullerton was equal to the task and turned away each attempt. Orlando Casteneda converted a pass from Samuel Adjei in the 78th minute to put the game out of reach.

O'Keeffe made four saves for the Stags, while Fullerton finished the contest with five saves to record the shutout.
