FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Freshman Dan Shaw (Cheshire, England) earned his first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rookie of the week award after leading the Fairfield University men's soccer team to a 1-1 record last week.
The Stags started the week with a 3-1 setback to Siena College, but rebounded with a 3-1 victory against Marist College two days later. Shaw started the Siena game, his fifth start of the season, but did not figure in the scoring.
He played a role in all three goals against Marist, securing four points in the game. He picked up an assist on the first goal, which pushed the Stags in the lead during the first half. Fairfield started the second half with a pair of goals, the first of which was Shaw's first career goal. He finished a corner kick by heading the ball into the net for a 2-0 lead.
Shaw picked up his second assist of the game when he sent a cross to teammate Jon Clement, who beat the Marist goalkeeper to the far corner. With his four points in the game, Shaw brought his season total to five points which places second among the team's top scorers.
Fairfield University, under Head Coach
Carl Rees, owns a 3-5-5 overall record and a 2-2 MAAC mark. The team returns to action on Saturday, October 23 when it travels to conference foe Iona College for an afternoon game.
