Biography

2016-17

Jerry Johnson Jr. led all bench players with 13 points against UMBC in the CIT first-round game, the 11th time he was the top scoring reserve in 2016-17. The guard came off the bench for his first 11 appearances before getting the starting nod in the next 14 games. He finished the season with as a reserve against Siena and UMBC. Johnson Jr. averaged 10.6 points per game as a reserve (136 points in 13 games) and 12.2 points per game as a starter (171 in 14 games). Johnson scored 10 or more points in 17 games last year, highlighted by a season-high 26 points at Iona. He finished second on the team with 62 three-point field goals in 27 appearances (2.3 per game). Johnson Jr. posted eight of the team’s 11 overtime points in Fairfield’s 89-86 win at Quinnipiac, finishing the game with 19 points. The 19-point performance finished off a run of 14 double-digit scoring games over a 18-game stretch that saw the guard average 12.7 points per game (230 points). He averaged 11.3 points per game which placed third on the team.

2015-16

Jerry Johnson averaged 8.3 points per game which was fourth on the team, one spot behind classmate Curtis Cobb’s scoring average of 10.8 ppg. Johnson was also fourth among his teammates with 43 three pointers, just one basket from third place. He ranked eighth in the MAAC with a .402 three-point field goal percentage (43 of 107). He made at least one three pointer in 18 games, including 11 games with two or more three pointers. One of his best performances from behind the arc came against Dartmouth when he netted five of six shots from behind the arc, second only to his seven three pointers (nine attempts) at Quinnipiac. The guard shot 40.2 percent from behind the arc, making more than half of his attempts in eight games. The freshman posted nine double-digit scoring games which included two 20-point efforts (20 vs. Dartmouth and 25 vs. Marist).  Johnson started one of his 28 appearances, registering two points in 12 minutes against Columbia. He earned the MAAC rookie of the week on December 28.
 

Before FairfieldJohnson Jr., a 6-2, 200-pound guard, joins the Stags’ program after prepping at Notre Dame Prep School. He previously attended Houston High School in Tennessee. He was ranked 13th in Massachusetts (Class of 2015) and 48th overall in New England by New England Recruiting Report (NERR). He was listed as a two-star recruit by VerbalCommits.com and was picked as an All-Metro player in Memphis following the 2013-14 campaign. His versatile scoring and high basketball IQ helped Notre Dame Prep qualify for the prestigious 2015 National Prep Championship tournament
