Biography

2020-21: Matt McGlinchey secured another berth to the All-MAAC first team after another successful season. He served as a member of the starting lineup throughout the season, picking up a goal and two assists for four points. He opened the season with an assist in a 2-0 victory decision over Canisius. The midfielder also had a hand in both goals of a 2-0 victory against Manhattan, picking up the game-winning goal before assisting on the second goal. McGlinchey took 11 shots during the season and put four on target.

2019: McGlinchey enjoyed another solid season in the midfield which earned him another berth to postseason honors. The midfielder was selected as an All-MAAC Second Team performer after registering two goals and four assists in his 16 starts. He tallied the game-winning goal against Saint Joseph’s, converting a penalty kick in the 93rd minute. One game later, McGlinchey assisted on both goals of a 2-2 draw with Stony Brook.  He also picked up another two assists in a 4-3 setback against Saint Peter’s before finishing out his scoring ledger with a goal in the win over Siena. McGlinchey was the team’s most accurate shooter by putting 15 of his 23 attempts on the goal (.682 on-goal percentage).

2018: McGlinchey continued to excel in the midfield, securing an All-MAAC first team berth following his performance on the pitch. He led the team with six assists during the season, accounting for a third of the team's total assists. His total also placed him in a tie for second place among MAAC scorers in 2018. All but one of his assists came in MAAC play including a pair of passes that set up goals in a 5-0 win over Canisius. McGlinchey was responsible for the pass that set up game-winning goals against Iona and Siena. While he did not score a goal, his ability to put shots on the net created pressure with five of his nine attempts finding the goal.

2017: McGlinchey emerged as one of the top newcomers not only among his teammates but also in the MAAC. The midfielder secured berths to the All-MAAC second team as well as an conference All-Rookie selection in 2017. He earned those accolades based upon his play on the pitch, scoring in six games for a total of eight points. He set up a goal in his first collegiate game, an assist in Fairfield’s overtime win against Oregon State. The remainder of his points came in MAAC play which included game-winning goals in consecutive games against Niagara and Rider. More than half of his 13 shots were on goal for a .538 accuracy percentage

Before Fairfield: McGlinchey brings international experience which he garnered as a center midfielder. While at Millfield School, McGlinchey scored 24 goals and added 36 assists between 2015 and 2017. For his efforts, the midfielder earned the Millfield Player of the Year for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns. He represented Northern Ireland U-17s, gaining seven caps in both international friendlies and tournaments.
