Fairfield University Athletics

2021 Season: Emily Kness emerged as one of the team’s top defensive players, gaining entry to all 22 games in 2021. She started the final 19 games of the campaign after coming off the bench for the first three dates. The defender was one of three Fairfield student-athletes to earn All-NEC first team accolades. Kness was part of a defensive unit that allowed 1.19 goals per game and posted eight shutouts in 22 games. She collected a berth to the NFHCA National Academic Squad for her work in the classroom.

2020-21 Season: Kness made her first appearance with the Stags in the regular season finale when she gained quality minutes against Sacred Heart University. The defender spends a good portion of the game contributing on the back line, helping Fairfield garner its fourth shutout of the season.

2019 Season: Kness comes to Fairfield after spending her freshman campaign with the Colgate University field hockey team, starting 16 of her 17 appearances. The defender placed third in the nation with seven defensive saves including two in a 4-3 win over Towson. She made at least one defensive save in four straight games from October 1-11. She managed one shot during the season, making an attempt in a win over Saint Louis.
 
Before Fairfield: Kness was a multi-sport athlete at Lakeland High School as a member of the field hockey and lacrosse teams. She was a two-time lacrosse captain and a captain of the 2018 field hockey squad. She was a member of the National Honor Society and earned three Scholar-Athlete awards. On the pitch, Kness received nods to the All-League and All-Conference teams in 2016 and 2017 and collected Section One Elite 11, All-State, and All-Region accolades in 2018.
