Biography

2020-21: Gordon Botterill secured the 2020-21 MAAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year Award and was also a member of the All-MAAC following his performance during the season. He started all eight games of the 2020-21 season including the team’s two MAAC tournament games against Saint Peter’s and Quinnipiac. The goalkeeper registered four shutouts during the campaign including three straight clean sheets against Rider, Manhattan, and Saint Peter’s (MAAC Tournament). He completed the campaign with a 0.95 goals against average and a .733 save percentage with 22 saves. He recorded a season-high five stops in a 2-1 win against Monmouth. He surrendered eight goals in 757 minutes of work with four of those coming in one game, leaving him with four goals allowed in 667 minutes over the rest of the season.

2019: For the second straight season, Botterill emerged as one of the top goalkeepers in the MAAC, earning All-MAAC second team honors for his performance in 2019. The goalkeeper amassed a .798 save percentage during his 17 appearances. He averaged better than five saves per game (87 saves in 17 games) and allowed only 1.22 goals per game. He collected a conference-leading six shutouts during the 2019 campaign with three of those decisions coming against MAAC opponents – Rider (0-0), Siena (3-0), and Canisius (1-0). He averaged 6.3 saves per game during those conference shutouts including seven against Rider and Siena. Botterill started the year with career-best 15 saves in 1-1 draw with Rhode Island. And, he finished the campaign equally as strong by allowing just two goals in his last four outings while making 20 saves.

2018: Botterill earned the MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year award after posting a 1.03 goals against average and posting four shutouts plus one combined clean sheet during the season. His numbers also merited a spot no the All-MAAC first team, his second straight selection to an All-MAAC squad. He capped the award season by collecting United Soccer Coaches All-East Region second team honors. Over the final five regular-season games, the sophomore allowed just one goal in 490 minutes of action (0.18 GAA). Botterill made 62 saves in 18 appearances, highlighted by six saves in the team's win over nationally-ranked UNCW. He hit that save total three times in the first four games of the season and made at least five saves in seven of his 18 games played. He placed fifth in the MAAC for goals against average (1.03 GAA) and in total saves with 62 (3.44 per game).

2017: Botterill made the most of his inaugural campaign with the Stags, earning a spot on the All-MAAC second team and the MAAC All-Rookie team. The goalkeeper played 1590 minutes and posted an 11-3-3 record with nine shutouts in his 17 appearances. He posted a 0.91 goals against average with a .787 save percentage , facing 75 shots on goal. He collected eight shutouts in 12 starts against conference opponents including his final three games which included the regular-season finale against Rider and versus Quinnipiac and Rider in the MAAC tournament.  In the semifinal game against  Quinnipiac, he made two saves in overtime and three in the penalty kick round to help his team advance to the championship game against Rider.

Before Fairfield: Botterill played club soccer with FC St. Paul and Serrette FC before coming to Fairfield University.
