2016: Butwell started two games as a designated hitter and made her other 18 appearances as a pinch hitter during the season. She ended the season with a .273 batting average, stroking six hits in 22 at-bats. On senior day, Butwell stroked two singles in three at-bats against Iona including a run-scoring single for her second RBI of the year. Her first RBI came with a base hit against Central Washington in early March. Butwell batted .600 as the designated player in 2016 (3 for 5) and owned a .176 hitting percentage (3 for 17) as a pinch hitter. She served as a pinch-hitter against four of the five MAAC tournament teams this year (0 for 4), missing only the Monmouth doubleheader.
2015: Butwell earned a career-high 29 at-bats during the 2015 campaign and picked up three hits. All three of her hits came against conference opponents as she picked up a single in the first Niagara game, a double in the nightcap against the Purple Eagles, and a base hit versus Canisius. She recorded all four of her RBI in Niagara doubleheader which included a two-run single in the opener. She also reached three other times by drawing a walk against Central Florida and Monmouth as well as a hit-by-pitch at Wagner. Butwell appeared most of the time as a pinch hitter or designated player but did get one game in the outfield (Creighton).
2014: Shelby Butwell finished her season with her best game of 2014, stroking three hits in four at-bats against Manhattan. She hit a solo home and also scored two runs against the Jaspers. The game was her second start of the season with the first coming against Dartmouth. Two of her five hits this year were homers, also knocking one over the fence against Niagara. She finished the season with a .263 batting average and a four RBI. She registered a hit in three of her 18 appearances.
2013: Butwell has played a reserve role throughout her first year with the program, appearing in seven games. She earned two starts against Sacred Heart, one against Quinnipiac, and another versus Hartford for a total of four behind the plate. She picked up two at-bats during the campaign – one at Sacred Heart and one at Rider. She was flawless in the field, cleanly handling all 18 of her chances.
