2011: Shumate finished the season as well as anyone on the team, picking up a hit in 14 of the final 17 games - 21 hits in 58 at-bats for a .362 batting average. She led the team with a .393 batting average against MAAC opponents, stroking a team-best 22 hits in those 16 games. With that run, Shumate finished the season with a .289 batting average and was one of four Stags with 40 or more hits this season (46). The outfielder hit in 30 of 50 games during the year, and had two or more hits in 14 games. Her best day of the season was a five for six performance in a doubleheader against Canisius. Shumate was just as solid on the base paths with 26 runs scored and 12 stolen bases (14 attempts). She also had two outfield assists, which tied for the team lead.

Before Fairfield: Shumate was a highly-decorated student-athlete at Montesano High School, where she helped her team capture the state title in 2008 and 2009. A .390 career hitter, the outfielder was named the team's most valuable player in 2007 and 2008, as well as the offensive player of the year in 2007. A two-time captain, Shumate was the County Athlete of the year in 2007 and 2008. She left Montesano as the program's all-time leader in stolen bases. She graduated with honors and was a member of the school's honor roll. Shumate will study nursing at Fairfield University.
