Biography

2023:  Haley Updegraff enjoyed one of the team’s best finishes to the regular season, batting .417 over the final 10 regular season games with 10 hits in 24 at-bats. Half of her 10 hits came in the Marist doubleheader on the final day of the season, picking up five hits in seven at-bats with four runs scored and one RBI. Updegraff collected three home runs during the regular season including an inside-the-park homer which came against Iona.  She finished the season with 30 runs scored, just three off the team lead set by Charli Warren. She also represents one of the team’s top base-stealing threats, swiping 19 bases in 20 attempts. Updegraff had at least one stolen base in 15 games including two against Sacred Heart, Rider, Niagara, and Siena. She was one of three Fairfield student-athletes to start all 47 games, joining Charli Warren and Kaitlin Hoffman for that honor. She was named to the MAAC All-Tournament team after batting .333 (2 for 6) with two RBI, stroking the team’s only hit against Iona in a 2-0 setback.

2022: Updegraff collected All-MAAC second team honors after she enjoyed her best offensive season as a Stag, leading the team with 43 hits in her 47 games played. She owned a 10-game hitting streak from April 20 through April 30 which included three non-conference games. During the run, the outfielder batted .441 with 15 hits in 34 at-bats with two doubles and three RBI. She scored at least one run in nine of those 10 games during the streak, missing only the Sacred Heart game. Updegraff had at least one hit in 30 games with 10 multi-hit games. She also led the team with 34 runs scored, eight more than team runner up Charli Warren.

2021: Updegraff came off the bench for each of her 15 appearances during the year, usually serving as a pinch hitter or pinch runner. She did gain one stint in the field, playing shortstop against Monmouth on May 2. The sophomore stroked five hits in her 14 at-bats for an impressive .357 batting average. Two of her base hits resulted in scoring against Saint Peter’s as her single in game one drove home one run while her base hit in the second game of the twin bill sent two base runners home. She also garnered a pair of stolen bases – one at Canisius and one versus Saint Peter’s. Updegraff worked out one walk during the campaign which helped her record a .400 on-base percentage.

2020: Haley Updegraff contributed from three different infield positions, the outfield, as well as serving as a designated hitter in her inaugural season with the program. She played shortstop in three games, second base in five contests, and third base twice. She was an outfielder one time and participated as the designated hitter in five outings. For the season, the freshman batted .269 with seven hits and four RBI in her 13 games with the Stags. She made an immediate mark on the team by stroking three hits in her first two games (seven at-bats) with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI. She ended the season with a three-game hitting streak that saw her earn a single against Sacred Heart and in both ends of the Bethune-Cookman doubleheader. Three of her four RBI came in the second Bethune-Cookman game, a contest in which she also walked twice.

Before Fairfield: Updegraff excelled at two positions during her time at Northeastern High School, starting her career as a catcher before switching to shortstop. Behind the plate, she made her mark as a sophomore by hitting better than .600 for the season and throwing out more than 15 base runners. She led her team to a YAIAA Division II title that season before the team moved up to Division I later in her career. Her second-year campaign started a run of three straight Player of the Year awards for Updegraff.
