Biography

2022: Drew Westford served as the team’s primary catcher during the course of the season, getting the nod in 31 games in 2022.  She picked up a hit in 15 games this season which includes a two-hit, two RBI effort in the regular-season finale against Manhattan College. She posted eight RBI through the 47-game season with four of those coming in the final five dates. Westford batted .400 over the final four games (4 for 10) of the regular season and hit in three of those four contests. She owned a .250 batting average against the MAAC this year (9 of 36) with three runs scored and three RBI.

2021:  \Westford finished the season strongly with eight hits in 25 at-bats (.320 batting average), picking up at least one hit in six of those nine games. Her three-game effort against Monmouth is also part of that run, registering four hits in nine at-bats before getting a game off on day two of the series. She posted a hit in 14 games during the season with five of those efforts resulting in two hits. She opened the season with two hits and three RBI against Manhattan which included a double and a home run. Westford also launched a ball over the fence at Canisius on March 27. For the season, Westford put up a .275 batting average with four doubles and two home runs while driving home nine runs in 28 starts. As a catcher, Westford collected 11 assists with 140 putouts.

2020: Westford put together a solid run of games in 2020, sporting a .275 batting average with 11 hits in 40 at-bats. She was among the team leaders with four doubles, half of which came in the win over Sacred Heart. She also scored two runs in the game, one of the six games in which she crossed home plate. Westford secured at least one hit in eight of her 12 appearances which brought about a .326 on-base percentage. She ranked fifth on the team with a .450 slugging percentage, a number which benefitted from four extra base hits. Westford registered three games with two hits, accomplishing the task against North Carolina in the season opener as well as Purdue and Sacred Heart.

2019: Westford missed a part of the season with an injury but recovered in time to appear in 13 of the team’s 20 MAAC games this year. Over her final seven MAAC contests, Westford batted .529 with nine hits in 17 at-bats which included appearances against Saint Peter’s, Iona, Rider, and Monmouth. She started 26 of her 30 games and finished the campaign with a .328 batting average that included four doubles and a home run. In her first four games of 2019, the catcher posted four hits with four RBI and finished with a .363 hitting percentage (4 for 11) against Oakland, La Salle, Campbell, and George Washington. Westford had a hit in 13 of her 26 outings and an RBI in seven contests. Westford collected a .371 batting average against the MAAC over 16 games (13 for 35) and picked up a team-best .444 batting average against the MAAC tournament field in eight games (8 of 18) with two doubles and a homer.

2018: Westford spent most of the first half of the season behind the plate, earning 10 starts as the team’s catcher through her first 17 appearances. Her first non-catching start came as a designated hitter against Manhattan in which she went 1 for 3 against Manhattan with an RBI and a double. She earned the MAAC Rookie of the Week award on April 10 after collecting eight hits and four RBI in a 5-0 week for the Stags. During that week, Westford stroked three hits in as many at-bats as the Stags defeated Yale in extra innings. She brought home two or more runs in four of the 11 games in which she recorded an RBI, highlighted by her three RBI against Columbia. Westford owned a .267 batting average against MAAC opponents in 2018 (12 of 45)/

Before Fairfield: Westford comes to the Fairfield University softball program as a three-sport athlete at Ferndale High School. She played softball as a freshman and sophomore before moving to the basketball team as a junior and a senior. She also spent a campaign as a sprinter with the track team. Westford was an All-County and All-Conference in softball. She posted a .473 batting average as a freshman and a .524 mark as a sophomore, registering a combined 64 RBI over the two campaigns. Westford also played two years of club softball, batting .377 with 37 RBI in 2016-17. As a student, she earned a spot on the school's honor roll and was a member of the Honors Society. She lists Business Management as her major.
