2026-27 Softball Returning Student-Athletes
Biography
2026: Darby Weller became one of the first reserves to enter the game in her junior season, coming off the bench in 20 of her 21 appearances. Still, the junior was able to contribute to the cause with nine runs scored and three stolen bases. Weller picked up a three hits this year with two resulting in doubles. Her first two-base hit came as a starter against Houston Christian while the second was as a reserve in the Columbia win. Her offensive numbers also included a .400 on-base percentage along with a .956 OPS. In the field, she handled all six chances in the outfield.
2025: Weller became a regular in the lineup, spending time between outfield, designated player, and also serving as a pinch runner. Weller scored all 11 of her runs as a pinch runner including a run in four of her last seven appearances. She put together a solid day against Marist on April 4, scoring a run as a pinch runner in the first game and returning to pick up a hit in two at-bats when she went into left field in the fourth inning of game two. Weller picked up 10 stolen bases during the season despite only starting two of her 30 appearances. She went on to score eight times when she stole a base.
2024: Weller appeared in 26 games during the season, the most by a Fairfield freshman in 2024. Among those 26 contests, she gained a start against Marshall, Utah State, Lafayette, Maryland, Central Connecticut, and Manhattan. She picked up her first collegiate hit in her first career start which came against Marshall. She registered her first RBI in her next appearance, a win over Bucknell. She scored one run in nine of her appearances including two against Marist.
Before Fairfield: Weller came to the Fairfield softball program after a successful scholastic career at Dowingtown West High School. She was a four-year varsity student-athlete with the school's softball and volleyball programs. She was an All-State outfielder following her junior and senior seasons as well as an All-District and All-League softball player. She owned a .452 batting average during her high school career, leading the team in doubles and RBIs throughout her career. In her senior season, Weller was honored as te school's Female Athlete of the Year.
