Biography

2009: Uy earned a spot on the All-MAAC first team as a midfielder as well as a berth to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (MSCAA) All-Region second team following a successful junior campaign. He tied his career high for points with six, scoring a goal and registering a personal-best four assists in 2009. He picked up a point in five games, including an assist in back-to-back contests against Towson and Albany. He also collected an assist in the St. Francis College and Saint Peter’s College games. Uy tallied the Stags’ first goal in a 2-1 win over the University of New Hampshire, his only goal of the season. Fairfield  raised its record to 9-2 when Uy scored a point since his arrival in 2007, which included a 4-1 mark during the 2009 season. 

2008
: Uy started all 18 games this season, giving him a start in all 35 career apperances. Last season, Uy started 17 of the team’s 19 games.  He netted two goals and two assists this year after posting three assists in 2007. He tallied a goal and an assist in the team’s MAAC Tournament semifinal win against Siena. Uy’s first point of the 2008 season came as an assist in a 2-1 loss to Monmouth. He netted his first career goal in a 4-0 win against Canisius. Uy took 22 shots during the year, which ranked fourth among his teammates. He tallied a season high five shots against Iona. He scored a goal on one of two attempts in the Canisius victory. Uy was also an important component in Fairfield’s solid defensive efforts this year. 

2007
: Uy was a dominant force in the midfield, providing support both offensively and defensively. He earned a spot on the All-MAAC second team as a freshman, gaining the honor after securing three assists in 17 starts. The midfielder posted his first career point with an assist against St. John's, setting up the game winner in the 77th minute. Two games later, he picked up another game-winning assist in a 1-0 decision over Yale. He capped the year by providing the pass which set up the game's only goal in a win against Rider. His three assists placed him second on the team, one off the team lead. Uy earned a berth to the United States Soccer Federation Under-20 team and competed in the Copas Chivas Tournament in San Bernadino, Calif. after the 2007 season. 

Before Fairfield
: Uy joined his brother Christian on the Fairfield soccer team. Matthew was one of the more experienced newcomers, earning All-League honors at Kellenberg High School. He finished his career with 18 goals and 15 assists, and collected All-State honors. He joined U.S. Soccer’s Residency Program in 2006, and played matches for the U-17 national team. At the club level, Uy played with Albertson Academy 88 and the Blau Weiss Gottschee U-16 squad.
