2023 Season: Malachy McGovern missed the first half of the 2023 season but returned by the end of September. He debuted against Rider on September 24 and went on to play the remaining eight games on the slate. He started seven of those nine nods including the final six. He picked up his only goal of the season in the season final, netting the deciding goal in a 2-0 win over Quinnipiac. He posted five shots during the campaign with four of those coming over the final four contests. McGovern played all 90 minutes in six of his nine appearances.

Before Fairfield: McGovern comes to the Fairfield University soccer program after he posted two goals and one assist during his four-year stay at American University. His first collegiate point was off an assist during the 2018 season, taking five shots over his 15 matches played. He tallied his first collegiate goal in the 2019 season opener against George Mason and started 10 of his 13 appearances. His final goal at American was the game-winner in the 94th minute against Army West Point in the 2021 Fall campaign. Before his collegiate play, McGovern was a three-sport athlete at Nower Hill (soccer, handball, track).
