2012: Newton became a permanent part of the Stags defense as a freshman, starting all 16 of the team's games. He proved to be one of the conference's top defensive players by season's end, earning a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie team. He was the only Stag to earn that postseason honor from the conference. The defender also had his moments on offense, registering four points which included a goal and an assist. His first collegiate points were a result of the game-winning goal against Yale, a 1-0 decision at home. Newton also tacked on an assist in a pair of road conference games, setting the team's first goal in a 4-2 loss against Iona and the Stags' final goal of a 3-0 decision versus Manhattan.


Before Fairfield: Newton looks to solidify the defense this season, coming to Fairfield after becoming the first member of his high school to play English Schoolboys. At Sir John Deane, he served as team captain and earned All-County honors. He tallied two goals and six assists for 10 points as a senior after registering two goals and four assists for eight points as a junior. He finished his career with four goals and 10 assists for 18 total points. He graduated with a 4.0 grade point average. Newton has ties to the professional ranks through his cousin Ben Marshall, who plays for Leicester City FC. Newton intends to study economics at Fairfield University.
