Derek Marks was a volunteer assistant coach for Fairfield men's lacrosse during the 2015 season. He left the program in November of 2015 to assume the head coaching position at Post University.
Marks ran the substitution box during games for the Stags and was also integral in player development and the day-to-day operations of the men's lacrosse office.
Marks served as the top assistant coach at Division II Post University in 2014 for the Eagles’ inaugural season as an NCAA program. Post recorded four victories in its first campaign and produced a pair of All-NEILA student-athletes. Marks was integral in recruiting 36 student-athletes to the Waterbury, Connecticut institution for its first season of action.
Prior to his tenure at Post, Marks spent one season as an assistant and three seasons as the head coach at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. He took the helm in 2011 and engineered the nation’s biggest turnaround, guiding the Division III Mariners to a program-best 9-4 final record. Mitchell also earned its first-ever postseason bid in 2011, reaching the ECAC Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship Semifinals. The Mariners repeated that feat in 2013.
Marks’ club experience includes a stint as the head travel team coach for Connecticut Cardinals Elite Lacrosse, and he is currently the vice president and director of recruiting for Shoreline Lacrosse LLC.
Marks is a graduate of nearby Sacred Heart University, collecting a Bachelor of Science degree in 2008 as a double major in Business Administration and Sports Management. He patrolled the midfield for the Pioneers’ lacrosse team and also earned 2006 All-America honors as a punter for the Sacred Heart football program. Marks holds the Sacred Heart record on the gridiron (through 2015) with a career average of 38.4 yards per punt.
