Before Fairfield: An All-CIAC runner at E.O. Smith, Montoya was a national qualifier in the 4x100 and DMR in 2024 as well as the the 4x800 and SMR in 2023. He was also a State Champion and state record holder in the 4x800 relay. Montoya was a part of the E.O. Smith cross country team that won the CCC-East Championship and finished as CIAC Class MM Runner Up in 2023.
