2013-14
Doug Chappell was another rookie who garnered quality minutes all season long, gaining entry in 21 of the team’s 32 games. He started six games, including five straight from November 23 through December 8. His first career start came against Louisville, playing 20 minutes. He also received the nod against Richmond, Providence, Quinnipiac, and Iona. His final start of the year came on February 22 when the team traveled to Canisius. Chappell enjoyed his best start against the Golden Griffs, netting 10 points in 29 minutes of work. All three of his double-figure scoring efforts came on the road, posting a personal-best 16 points at Loyola Md. and 13 points at Marist. Chappell made 18 of 48 shots from three-point range (38 percent). Overall, he shot 31 percent from the floor with 25 field goals in 80 tries. He averaged 4.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game in his freshman season.
Before Fairfield
Chappell came to Fairfield University via Episcopal High School where he averaged just over 14 points per game in his senior season and also posted an assist and a rebound per outing. He tallied 20 or more points in five games as a senior, including a season-high 27 points against Benedictine. He followed up that game with a 24-point effort in the season finale. He capped his senior season at Episcopal by earning the William Caskie Watts Award for Most Valuable Player for basketball.
