Joey Civico

Joachim (Joey) Civico has been a member of the field hockey coaching staff since 2010. Prior to the start of the 2013 campaign, Civico was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Stags.

Originally from Sheffield, England, he adds a great deal of experience to the field hockey program ? experience gained through both playing and coaching. He hopes to continue his coaching journey as he completes his England Hockey-accredited Level 3 Hockey Coaching Certificate. He also holds the Goalkeeper Coaching Bronze Award, also accredited by England Hockey.

Serving as Head Coach to the Wapping Men's 1st? Team in London from March 2009 through July 2010, he guided the program to their most successful season ever. Charged with all aspects of the team including offensive and defensive structure, conditioning, and team selection, the team had a 19-game undefeated streak as it was promoted to East Premier League A. During his tenure he coached players that have represented countries including England, Ireland and South Africa in international competition.

During 2010 Civico also worked with the St. George's University of London Women's Team. His responsibilities meant implementing training sessions for players who ranged from beginners to England internationals. He also ran specific goalkeeper-based sessions for the club.

His coaching resume includes several campaigns as a player and the Head Coach of Wapping Men's 2nd? Team, where he compiled an impressive 31-4 record. The team was promoted as league champions in both 2007 and 2008.

Prior to taking on major coaching responsibilities, Civico played hockey for over 15 years in England and Spain, spending the 2003/4 season with Club Hockey Belamadena Hockey in Andalucia. Between 2000 and 2003 he played for the University of Leeds in the BUSA Premier League and helped establish the team as one of the top eight in the country during his time there as a student. He ended the 2002-2003 season as the team's top scorer.?  As a junior he played for the Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club for 10 years. While there Civico was named the club's under-16, under-18 and under-21 player of the season. He was club's youngest player to win the latter distinction.
