2018 Season: Gilligan saw action in the Fairfield goal by earning quality minutes in five games during 2018. She made her season debut against Holy Cross, playing nearly 20 minutes in the team’s factory. She garnered her first start of the year in a 5-0 shutout of Lehigh, making two saves in the victory. She played one half at Sacred Heart as she made two saves in her 35 minutes. Her longest stint was on October 14 when she played 100 minutes at Columbia, making a season-high six saves. Her final appearance was as a starter against Saint Louis University against which she collected three saves.
2017: MAAC All-Academic Team. Played in 19 games, starting 16 in between the pipes. Made 70 saves while recording four shutouts and a .667 save percentage.
2016: MAAC All-Academic Team… Made one start for Fairfield against Providence on October 2. The sophomore allowed just three goals while racking up 10 saves in her 70 minutes of work. Was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 4.
2015: 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/ NFHCA Div. I National Academic Squad... Did not appear in any games this season.
Before Fairfield: Gilligan stays in state for her collegiate career, spending four seasons as the starting goalkeeper at South Windsor High School before enrolling at Fairfield University. Gilligan was a key member of the defensive unit, reaching the 100-save mark during her senior season. She posted double-digit save totals throughout her senior year including 15 stops in an overtime decision against Southington. Her goals against average hovered around 1.00 for most of the season, allowing just 13 goals in the first 15 games of the 2014 campaign. She capped her senior season by earning All-Central Connecticut Conference honors, her third berth to the team in as many years. She was selected to the All-State second team as a senior. In addition to her success on the field hockey turf, Gilligan also spent time as a member of South Windsor’s women’s lacrosse team.
