Biography

2010: Started all 19 games in the defensive end of the Stags finished third in points on six goals and one assist for 13 total. She was the main post player on defensive corners and also played a pivotal role in the Stags’ penalty corners connecting the back of the goal on many of them. Nieuwenhuis also finished with two game winning goals and a team and America East leading five defensive saves on the season. Her first goal as a senior came in their first win over Missouri State 2-1. Nieuwenhuis also capped off 2010 season by earning America East All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season.

2009: Nieuwenhuis was one of the team’s top scorers despite spending the season as a starting defender. She recorded most of her offensive points off penalty corners where she utilized a very precise shot from the top of the circle. She scored four goals and added two assists for 10 points, scoring at least one point in five games. She scored a goal in each of the first three games of the season – University of Connecticut, Ball State University, and Villanova University. She also added an assist against Bryant before closing out her scoring with a goal and an assist against Columbia. On the other side of the field, she posted three defensive saves, registering two against Villanova University and one more in the Hofstra game. Nieuwenhuis ended the season with a berth to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.  

2008
: Nieuwenhuis was a regular in the starting lineup with 15 starts, in addition to coming off the bench against Virginia Commonwealth and Vermont. She scored all three of her points in one game, netting a goal and dishing off an assist against Holy Cross. Nieuwenhuis' goal proved to be the game-winning tally against the Crusaders. The three points represented a season high for the sophomore. She attempted 22 shots during the year, recording a season-high six attempts against Yale. 

2007
: Nieuwenhuis wasted little time in making an impact on the program, playing in 18 games as a rookie. Her 18 appearances were the most among her first-year teammates. She also garnered three starts during the campaign, securing a spot against Columbia, Robert Morris, and Maine. The forward had one of two goals the team scored against America East foes, netting the team's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Maine. She finished the season with two total points. 

Before Fairfield
: Nieuwenhuis played both during the indoor and outdoor seasons in Holland, making her one of the more experienced players among her class. Nieuwenhuis played club field hockey with Cartouche in Voorburg, before becoming a member of Team Ferior upon her graduation from high school.
