Fr. Leeber Invitational Highlights 2016 Cross Country Slate

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Head Coach Brendan Rickert has announced the eight meets that comprise the fall schedules for the Fairfield University men’s and women’s cross country teams. The slate is highlighted by the 2016 Fr. Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational, which returns to campus on Saturday, Sept. 24.

“Our schedule will position us against some of the top teams in the MAAC and the Northeast region every week,” said Rickert. “We will be well prepared for our championship season.”

The Stags begin the fall with a visit to one of their conference foes, traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the Marist Invitational on Sept. 3. A trip to another conference foe follows on Sept. 16 as perennial MAAC favorite Iona hosts the Br. Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park.

Fairfield’s annual home meet – the Fr. Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational – is slated for Sept. 24. The race around campus will be followed by the Fr. W. Laurence O’Neil, S.J. Awards Ceremony.

After a two-week hiatus from competition, the Stags begin the 2016 championship season at Boston’s Franklin Park on Oct. 8 at the New England Championship. Following a tune-up race at Central Connecticut State on Oct. 21, championship season reaches its peak at the 2016 MAAC Championship. The Stags will head down to ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. for the conference meet.

Back-to-back weekends Van Cortlandt Park conclude the 2016 schedule with the NCAA Northeast Region Championship on Nov. 11 and the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Nov. 19.
