Scott Daly Heads to USATF Junior Outdoor Championships This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Rising sophomore Scott Daly of the Fairfield University men’s cross country team will compete in the 10,000-meter run at the USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships this weekend in Clovis, Calif. The annual event is a national showcase for track and field performers aged 19 and younger.

Daly, the first Stag to ever qualify for the event, clocked in with a time of 31:48.60 in the 10,000-meter run as Fairfield took part in the CCSU Invitational as a part of its spring season. He is slated to compete alongside runners from Oklahoma State, Iowa State, UCLA, Illinois and Georgetown among others.

Daly worked out on campus alongside his teammates through the conclusion of the spring semester. For the past month, he has trained independently with a workout plan devised by Head Coach Brendan Rickert.

The 10,000-meter run is scheduled for 11:25 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday, June 24 at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Clovis. Visit UASTF.org for more information.

“The biggest thing we want Scott to do this weekend is to have fun and compete hard. He's going to walk away with an amazing experience which will ultimately help him for years to come,” said Rickert. “That being said, we're not going out there with the mindset that it's ‘good enough’ just to qualify. We want to represent the University and our program in the way it deserves to be.”
