EDISON, N.J. – After carding a fifth-place score of 148 at the Towson Invitational, Eric Austin has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week. Austin and teammate Kevin Duncan each fired a 73 in the final round of the tournament to propel the Fairfield University men’s golf team from 10th place after 18 holes to a third-place finish at the end of the weekend.
With a 36-hole score of 148 (+4), Austin was three strokes off the pace set by individual medalist Christopher Crawford of Drexel. His 73 (+1) on Sunday was highlighted by the lone eagle of the day.
With Austin leading the charge, the Stags tied St. John’s for third place with a 614, five strokes behind second-place Drexel and nine shots behind tournament winner Georgetown. Fairfield bested MAAC foes Siena (617) and Rider (629) as well as in-state rival Sacred Heart (643) on the weekend.
Fairfield’s upcoming spring schedule features three one-day tournaments prior to the 2016 MAAC Championship set for April 22-24 at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
