On cool sunny afternoon, the Friends of Fairfield Lacrosse joined the University community to celebrate the dedication of Rafferty Stadium, the new state-of-the-art lacrosse stadium that includes seating for more than 3,000 spectators, a video score board, a media suite as well as two VIP suites.

The dedication ceremony started with a welcome from Director of Athletics Gene Doris, observations and a blessing from President Jeffery von Arx, S.J., and a closing by Senior Vice President for Administration and Chief of Staff Dr. Mark Reed.

“I appreciate the bond that many of our friends of lacrosse have established through their love of the sport and their affinity for Fairfield University,” Father von Arx said at the dedication. “Your engagement with our men’s and women’s programs benefits and provides opportunities to our coaches and student-athletes that help them achieve their goals.

Two student-athletes also gave their perspective on Rafferty Stadium, namely senior Kayla Arnold and sophomore Jay Walsh. Both players expressed their thanks for the generosity of Larry Rafferty and Tim Conway as well as the numerous donors who made generous gifts so that the student-athletes’ dream of having one of the best lacrosse facilities in the nation came true.

Following the dedication ceremony, a Friends of Lacrosse reception was held adjacent to Rafferty Stadium where more than 100 family members, friends, and alumni enjoyed time with one another in between games. And what made the day even more special was a pair of wins by the Stags as the women’s team beat Manhattan 12-3 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game while the men defeated 20th-ranked Villanova by an 11-4 count.

If you have not had an opportunity to join us for a game at Rafferty Stadium, there are still several opportunities to watch the Stags in action. The women’s team will host games on April 1 (Iona) and April 15 (Monmouth), while the men’s squad will play on April 18 (Delaware) and April 24 (Hofstra). The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 11 with the women taking on Canisius at 11 am and the men playing their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) home game against Towson at 2 pm.
