FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams continue their season this weekend by traveling to New York to compete against Fordham University and Monmouth University on Friday at 5:00 pm. Then on Sunday, the diving teams will travel to Central Connecticut State University for the Blue Devil Diving Invitational at 1:00 pm.
Last weekend, both teams fell to Rider on Friday afternoon. The men’s team was defeated 180-110 while the women had a closer score of 160-132.
The women’s team saw excellent debuts from freshmen Grace Goddard, Donna Lam, and Jane Rice. Goddard finished first in the 200y butterfly with a time of 2:12.69. Lam saw a victory in the 100y freestyle with a time of 56.72. Rounding out the first place finishes was Jane Rice who took the top spot in the 3-meter dive posting a score of 217.87.
The men also took first place in a few events as Connor Daly posted victories in the 200y butterfly and 200y IM. Daniel Pires scored well in the 3-meter dive to finish second with a score of 273.52 and placed third in the 1-meter dive.
The Rams will be competing in their first home meet on Friday. Their first meet will come on Thursday when they travel to Marist to take on the Red Foxes.
Friday will be the first contest of the season for the Hawks. Monmouth, a MAAC member, was picked to finish 10th in the conference in both preseason coaches’ polls.
Looking ahead, the teams will compete at the College of the Holy Cross on Saturday, October 31.
