Swimming & Diving Head Coach Bill Farley Retires

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After 12 years at the helm of the Fairfield University Swimming & Diving program, Head Coach Bill Farley is retiring.

“I am very appreciative of the contributions Bill has made to Fairfield University Athletics over the last decade,” Director of Athletics Eugene P. Doris said. “He not only revitalized the swimming and diving program, but he brought in student-athletes that excelled both in the pool and in the classroom. I am very grateful for all Bill has done and wish him the best of luck in his retirement.”

Farley took over the program during the 2002-03 campaign and guided the men’s and women’s teams to 107 victories to become the all-time winningest coach in program history. During that time, the Stags saw 76 men’s and women’s swimming records fall and had 10 individual swimming titles registered at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.

In the classroom, Farley’s Stags received 150 MAAC All-Academic selections. The women’s program has been the recipient of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Team Scholar honors in each of the last six years while the men’s team has earned the award in each of the last four. The men’s program has also earned the NCAA Public Recognition Award in each of the last two seasons while the women’s program has received the honor twice during Farley’s tenure.

A search for Farley’s replacement will begin immediately.
