FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team will host Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Manhattan on Thursday, April 10 at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 3pm.
Fairfield vs. Manhattan: Thursday's match will be the first dual the Stags and the Jaspers have played against one another since last year’s match on April 14. In that contest, Fairfield swept Manhattan, 7-0, in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The Stags are 3-0 in their last three meetings with the Jaspers.
A Look at the Jaspers: Manhattan is 5-8 on the season and 3-1 in MAAC play. The Jaspers have posted victories over conference opponents Rider, Monmouth, and Saint Peter’s and have fallen to Siena. Manhattan is coming off a 7-0 loss to Stony Brook on April 8.
Last Time Out: The Stags defeated MAAC opponent Monmouth, 6-1, on April 8 at the Outdoor Tennis Complex in West Long Branch, N.J. The win lifted the Stags to a 4-1 conference record. After winning the doubles point, Fairfield kept the winning streak into singles play. Sharissa Ryan, Allison Radde, Carolina Koladzyn, Kaila Nelson, and Karen McKeough all posted singles victories in the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 spots. The Stags only gave up one point in the No. 1 spot, where Monica Yajima retired.
Weekly Winner: Senior Sharissa Ryan was named the MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after posting singles and doubles victories in the Stags’ two conference matches against Niagara and Monmouth this past week. So far this season, Ryan is 8-8 in singles play and 13-10 in doubles. The 2012 MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Performer has collected 126 combined victories over her last four seasons. This is Ryan’s third time earning MAAC Weekly honors throughout her career and her first this season.
Pardon Our Appearance: The first phase of construction on the Rafferty Stadium project has gotten underway. Due to the construction, the Walsh Athletic Center Parking Lot will be closed. Fans are asked to utilize the parking lots at Dolan Commons, Fairfield Prep, the rear of Alumni Hall, and Jogues Hall when they visit Stags Country for a game.
Looking Ahead: Fairfield (7-7) will take conference action on the road. The Stags will stop at Siena on April 12 before heading across town to Sacred Heart on April 14.
