Women's Tennis Defeats Monmouth for Third Straight Win

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent Monmouth University, 6-1, this afternoon at the Outdoor Tennis Complex. The win lifted the Stags to a 4-1 conference record.

At No. 2 doubles, Fairfield duo Sharissa Ryan and Allison Radde defeated Monmouth’s Ashley Sandler and Chioma Gabriel, 8-2. In the No. 3 spot, Kaila Nelson and Karen McKeough clipped the Hawks' Kendal Kauffman and Sarah Turner, 8-3. At No. 1 doubles, Stags pair Monica Yajima and Carolina Koladzyn were edged by Monmouth’s Brooke Verdiglione and Farrah Smoke, 8-4.
 
After winning the doubles point, the Stags continued the winning streak into singles play. In the No. 2 spot, Ryan downed Sandler, 6-3, 6-0. Radde edged Smoke, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 spot, while Koladzyn defeated the Hawks' Kauffman, 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 4 spot. At No. 5 singles was Nelson who edged Gabriel, 6-0, 7-6 (7-2). Rounding out singles play for Fairfield was McKeough who defeated Monmouth’s Robyn Belen, 6-2, 6-4. The Stags only gave up one point in the No. 1 spot, where Yajima retired.

Fairfield (7-7) returns to action on April 10, when the Stags host MAAC foe Manhattan at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts at 3pm.

The first phase of construction on the Rafferty Stadium project has gotten underway. Due to the construction, the Walsh Athletic Center Parking Lot will be closed. Fans are asked to utilize the parking lots at Dolan Commons, Fairfield Prep, the rear of Alumni Hall, and Jogues Hall when they visit Stags Country for a game.
