Seven on Women?s Tennis Earn All-MAAC Honors

EDISON, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2014 women’s tennis All-MAAC and MAAC All-Academic Teams and awards this evening. Five Stags were recognized for their singles play, while six Stags were recognized for doubles.  

Monica Yajima earned All-MAAC First Team honors for her performance at No. 1singles. She finished with an impressive 16-7 overall record and had a 7-1 mark in conference play. Heading into the MAAC Tournament, she is on a two-match win streak and went 7-2 in her last ten matches. The senior also earned a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team at No. 1 Doubles with partner Carolina Koladzyn. Together, the duo went 6-5 overall with a 3-3 mark in conference play. Yajima has also recorded 140 combined victories, good for second all-time at Fairfield.

Sharissa Ryan earned All-MAAC Second Team honors for her performance at No. 2 singles. She finished with an impressive 13-8 overall record and had a 7-1 mark in conference play. Heading into the MAAC Tournament, she is on an eight-match win streak and went 8-0 in her last ten matches. The senior also earned a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team at No. 2 Doubles with partner Victoria Pirrello. Together, the duo went 9-6 overall with a 3-1 mark in conference play. Ryan has posted 134 combined victories, good for fourth all-time at Fairfield.

Pirrello also earned All-MAAC Second Team honors for her performance at No. 6 singles. She finished with a 5-10 overall record and had a 3-2 mark in conference play. Heading into the MAAC Tournament, the senior is on a two-match win streak.

Allison Radde earned All-MAAC Second Team honors for her performance at No. 3 singles. She finished with an 8-10 overall record and had a 4-2 mark in conference play. Heading into the MAAC Tournament, the junior is on a four-match win streak. Radde also earned a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team at No. 3 Doubles with partner Kaila Nelson. Together, the duo went 4-3 overall with a 4-1 mark in conference play.

Nelson also earned All-MAAC Second Team honors at No. 5 singles after a stellar freshman campaign. The rookie finished with a 13-11 overall record and had an impressive 6-2 mark in conference play.

One Stag was recognized for her academic accomplishments, making the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Sophomore Holly Ream earned the honor for the first time. For her academic efforts, Ream also garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete honors after the 2013 season.

Fairfield will head to West Windsor, N.J. to face third-seeded Niagara University in Saturday’s MAAC semifinal at 2pm at Mercer County Park.
